One of our senior stylists Nikki Paton did a fantastic job on the Gin Wigmore shoot for Pilot Magazine. Nikki hit the nail on the head with a 1950's soft punk-look. Labels: Editorial

The latest Pilot mag gives its readers aesthetic pleasure with a 10-page beauty spread packed with dark moodiness, expressive movement and intense drama. Stephen Marr hair stylist Jason Li did a beautiful job on the hair. Labels: Editorial

One of our wicked hairstylists Matt Benns talks to NO. Magazine about his muses, turning people hot and being a style encyclopedia. Labels: Editorial

Matt also worked on the 16-page spread of international model Stella Maxwell in the Summer 2009 issue of NO. magazine. Matt created an original/feminine/boyish/punky/elegant/sharp/soft/striking look for the shoot. Talented? We think so.

Two of our stylists, Lauren Gunn and Shontal Healey worked together with Liv Hemus to generate a nonchalant, natural look on Kiwi model Emma Champtaloup. This rising superstar is on her way up. Walking for the likes of Armani at this year’s Milan Fashion Week. Definitely one to watch! Labels: Editorial

Our gorgeous stylist Tash Horomia turns Kat Riddell all sweet and sixties with help from Kevin Murphy's Body Guard and a big round brush. Labels: Editorial

Our very own Elyse Scott styled the hair for Sunday's 'Dressed To Thrill' photo-shoot. An exhibition of ten different designer's take on the iconic Little Black Dress. Synthesising the surrounding landscapes, smokey eyes, plaited, twisted, tousled hair and ten intricate black dresses has created a dramatic and breathtaking editorial. for our website, as she fashions two of our customised vintage Fashion Week t-shirts and some shoulder pads into an amazing cape. The project was filmed for a competition we had running throughout Air NZ Fashion Week.
The beauty of youth always provides the centre of gravity for Karen Walker shows, as well as the coolest hats this side of the equator. Glowing skin was called for and model faces were prepped with mini facials from Lucy and the Powderroom then sweetly colored with powder-pink cheeks and coral lips, hair was blown out smooth and clean keeping a floaty volume through the top and drawn from a centre part over the ears into a low ponytail at the base of the nape. Adrian Hailwood's show put an irresistable twist on fame and fortune. With inspiration taken from David Hockney's work 'A Bigger Splash' models were clad in silk dresses and sleek turbans. Brushed out and tumbling tresses of luxurious Veronica Lake waves exaggerated the look of the poolside LA screen siren. Photography by Olivia Hemus. Labels: Fashion Week

In an ode to Judith Baragwanath, conspicuously unfashionable Auckland scandalizer, Kate Sylvester sent out a collection with a masculine bent and cross gender dressing. Makeup featured the trademark Baragwanath black lip and hair was scrapped back and dewey, mimicking the look of morning hair that still carries the residue of the night before. To get this look mix Sebastian Matte Paste and Taming Elixir together in the palm of your hand and rake your fingers through your hair, secure it with a couple of tortoise shell slides low at the back, and finish off with a generous spray of Sebastian Halo Mist shine spray all through the ends. Salasai designer Kirscha Witcher pays tribute to the 90’s with a mix of androgyny, power dressing and big hair. Texture created with mini crimps and tongs is blown out and flung from a low side part. 90’s perms make a comeback for this show. Labels: Fashion Week, Film

The NOM*d show was a spin on rights of passage in religion. The coming-of-age and loss of innocence. The hair look for the show represents the transition between childlike innocence and worldly sensuality, bound by hand in sections around the head in a reconfigured version of green room wig wraps. The restrained elegance of the British aristocrat flows seamlessly through Alexandra Owen’s Autumn Winter 09 collection. For the hair, late 1940’s victory rolls are re-interpreted with an anglo eccentric twist. Photography by Olivia Hemus. Labels: Fashion Week

An epic combination of designers, both have a talent for capturing the freshness of youth with their collections, adding a twist of course and calling for flat out beautiful hair. The hair for this show reworks the brash beauty of 1940’s New York, this time leaving the can of hairspray at home in favour of a soft and sleepy silhouette. Labels: Fashion Week, Film

Taking a cue from Victorian austerity, the hair created for Cybele this year features a severe centre part and sculpted loops dropping away from the edges of the face, a tribute to Jane Campion’s Aida and a continuance in Cybele’s signature sleek feminine style. Labels: Fashion Week

Since their debut at the Verge Designer Breakthrough show in 2005, Lonely Hearts have built up a reputation as one of the most exciting names at Air NZ Fashion Week. Previous showings have ranged from an offbeat installation at ECC lighting in 2006, to the slick catwalk productions of the past two years. Each event has been marked by inspired collaborations, original ideas and flawless execution – leading Marie Claire UK to name Lonely Hearts as “One of the hottest designers and coolest trendsetters from around the globe”. On Monday, September 21st lonely hearts exceeded this reputation with the debut of “What is Your Damage”; an interdisciplinary film collaboration between the renowned fashion label and Auckland artist Tim Van Dammen. A little bit of delving by the Lonely Hearts crew into cave-dwelling American cults has underpinned the feeling for their autumn winter 2010 collection. The idea is represented in the hair with a very anti-glamour finish. Unkempt, unbrushed and unselfconscious. Straying from the conventional path Lonely Hearts have chosen to present their work in video installation in direct contrast with the technophobic tendency of religious cults. Our talented stylist Nikki Paton led a team of four at this years GUCCI 09/10 Winter Show. Nikki collaborated with GUCCI and M.A.C to create a slick 80’s look with a modern twist.
To create this look just follow these steps:
1. Dampen hair and brush,
2. Comb Kevin Murphy-Anti-Gravity through crown area with fingers,
3. Section hair with a parallel part, approximately 8cm apart,
4. Blow-dry front section forward,
5. Blow-dry back section out and down ensuring small amount of volume,
6. Tease front section then brush back and slightly to one side,
7. Spray with Kevin Murphy-Session Spray,
8. Sweep sides back with fingers and a dryer,
9. Go over with a ghd to keep it looking tidy.
Stylist Tip: Clip both sides back while blow waving and backcombing the crown.

Take a look at the beautiful short film, 'Serpentine', by Special Problems for Cybele. The film showcases Cybele's latest 'Serpentine' range in a way like no other. Hair by Lauren Gunn with assistance from Teresa Grice and Elyse Scott. Labels: Film
Sunday Star Times sent Catherine Woulfe along to Lucy and The Powder Room to try our Environ DF Machine treatment and report back. This 60-minute treatment is truly fabulous "I look 10 years younger. I am so radiant and plump-skinned I pinch my own cheeks". Catherine confesses "Two weeks later my skin still looks better than it did before the treatment". We suggest you try it for yourself!
Our talented stylist, Lauren Gunn, photographer Karen Inderbitzen-Waller @ International Rescue, stylist Katie Newton and make-up artist Amber D collaborated on the 'Spring Fever' editorial for Sunday Magazine. The shoot takes Spring to a whole new level, demonstrating that fresh blooms can be worn both subtle and sweet along with a quirky twist. Try experimenting with a fresh Spring colour palette of nudes, pinks, apricots and minty-fresh greens to get a bit of Spring fever going on! Labels: Editorial
Our top session stylist - Nikki Paton got together once again with photographer David Sheilds to shoot at The Treehouse in Matakana for The Sydney Morning Herald. Referencing the 1920's, this simple, sleek and fresh number is perfect for taking your evening wear up a notch. Labels: Editorial
Fashion Styling: David Bonney

Photographed in the serene setting of the Hamilton Gardens, the Eternal Garden collection from Meadowlark recalls the delicate shapes and wanton feminity of the deco era. Mathew Benns was behind the look for the hair with classic waves set on rollers using O+M Atonic styling lotion and brushed out with a natural bristle brush to get soft old fashioned volume.

LONELY HEARTS MISS CRABB JULIETTE HOGAN CYBELE KAREN WALKER FAST AND LOOSE Labels: Collections, Film
belle du jour gets into double trouble with 6X2 drop dead looks created by the Stephen Marr team especially for girls who like to have fun at the ball and look good while they're at it.

TWILIGHT This is a look for creatures of the night, severe centre parts and falling ragged waves, blood black lips, stained eyes and pale skin. An homage to Stephanie Meyer’s fascinating novels, the modern undead are darkly feminine in frills and heels from lonely hearts.
OLD FASHION A cheeky remake of old fashioned glam with the volume turned up a notch. Hot red and magenta lips, navy cats eyes teamed with frocks of electric teal and gold from cybele and an old time set of waves in the hair taken away over one shoulder puts an eighties spin on things.
THE NEW STRAIGHT Volume is hot and this classic 60’s bouffant is beaten into shape with a kinky mix of textures we call the new straight. There’s not a hint of color to be seen with contoured eyes framed by sweeping black liquid flicks, matte nude lips and short, billowy sleeved, shift dresses from Miss Crabb.
ANGEL An halo of braids and coils in the hair makes a simple sillhouette, while a little bit of matted texture gives it an otherworld edge, mixed up with karen walker’s deep blue ruffles and offwhite belle shapes the look is sweetened with eyes shadowed gold and peachy pink lips.
SUNDAYS CHILD All at once young, innocent and wild in Juliette Hogan flowing floral dresses. With hair swept up in a loose top knot with rebelious fraying edges and pale rose smudges across eyes and lips this is romance undone.
POMPADOUR Todays power dressing for hair is the new pompadour, sleek and androgenous with a top heavy twist. Fast and Loose unleashes monochromatic style with bodycon bandage dresses and oversize fur coats and the look is pushed that little bit further with heavily emphasised cheeks and brows in earthy matte browns.

Alice Hampson created this look for hot new label Hopetown.

A sneaky look behind the scenes at the latest Karen Walker and Stephen Marr show. Backstage it was a no blow dry zone with hair twisted up in knots and left to set naturally, faces were fresh with berry tints on the cheeks and eyes, then finally a quick tousle of the hair before heading down the runway.

Here is the latest look from Juliette Hogan's Spring/Summer collection styled by Donielle Brooke from Stephen Marr Ponsonby. The brief for this season was 1950s sweetheart, naturally styled. Donielle tied the hair in a top pony and backcombed the tail to give density and control. She then twisted the tail around the base, clipped in place and sprayed with Sebastian Shaper hairspray. Sebastian Bohemian Paste was also used in preparation to give the hair matt finish and make the hair more manageable.
