28 November 2008 Fight the Frizz this Summer.....

Hey Sky, so can you give me your take on the best and easiest ways to get that beautiful, glossy Summer wave while still battling the Auckland humidity? |
Sure, well with Summer fast-approaching im all about soft, loose, bouncy hair (my three keywords for the Summer months). Curls and waves are in, put those irons away & start rocking the natural wave! Ratty, split ends are a no-go so make sure you get into your stylist every 6-8 weeks to make sure you're keeping your hair healthy.....that's the first step. Styling your hair shouldn't take more than 10-15 minutes if you have the right cut & colour for your hair type - don't hesitate to talk to your hairdresser at length about this. A semi-permanent wash is a great way to freshen up your colour, while also conditioning your hair and giving it that gorgeous shine. |
What tips do you have for clients that always feel they have to resort to straighteners and curling irons to get that straight-from-beach-look? | Hot Tip 1: Ideally, keep the use of heated tools to a minimum, I always find the biggest Fuzz Issues stem from poorly conditioned hair. The unforseen effects of the environment really add up, condition is the key to getting that beautiful, shiny mane of hair we all want. A really nourishing in-shower range is a good place to start. My favourites are the System Professional Hydro range as they're moisturising & totally colour-friendly - without being too heavy. A leave-in moisturiser treatment is a MUST! After all, it's what will protect your hair from the heat & the elements as you wear it and totally fine to use with every wash.
Hot Tip 2: However you want to style your hair, make sure to use a smoothing, shine serum on wet hair then blow-dry. MOP Glisten Drops are great! The serum acts as a sealant on the hair shaft making it soft, slippery and smooth.
What products do you recommend personally to your clients? | I love the Kevin Murphy Range, especially Body Guard; they're derived from all natural flower-oil extracts, is soft to the touch and delicious with a mild scent. | And for our friends at home? Can you share your secrets with us? | Well, for people with a natural wave, couple Body Guard with a bit of Motion Lotion, apply to wet hair and leave to dry naturally to give you the best beachy look for Summer. If you have naturally straight hair and want to recreate curls yourself, use a light stying cream like Kevin Murphy Anti-Gravity in wet hair, shake-dry it out loosely, then take large sections and wrap them around your curling tongs. Finish with some Motion Lotion or Easy Rider (both by Kevin Murphy), working the product through the ends of your hair with your hands....follow these rules and my secret tips and you will be beach-ready in no time! |
Thanks Sky! I'll be sure to sneak some more tips off you in the future!
